Streaming content to Sony Bravia LED TV

Recently I bought a Sony Bravia LED 3D SmartTV, being a lazy guy I always wanted to make available  all the content on all my laptops/desktops to my TV without any extra effort without moving a muscle (I believe in energy conservation).

Few of the videos were getting streamed by Media Player, but the problem is that your media player must be turned on, on your computer. Also, not all the formats were supported in Media Player.

I also , struggled to get this fixed through VLC player, I tried hard fixing the network configuration and stream video in the VLC advanced setting, but it was not getting streamed, might be I did some settings wrong there.

Then after searching for a long long time on the internet I found a real great post somewhere on the web and now I am not able to find it again so making a note down here.

If you have reached so far then it is safe to assume that you have a smart TV (preferably Sony Bravia LED Smart TV) and you also have a desktop or a laptop computer. I also gather some courage to assume that you already have a local area network (LAN) setup and your TV and computer are connected to the LAN and have valid IP addresses.

I also assume that you want to see the contents from your laptop on the TV.

Step1: Download the free media server 'Serviio' for your respective Operating System.
Step2: Install it on your system by clicking the .exe file.
Step3: After the installation open the Serviio console from the Start menu (in case of windows).
Step4: The server will be automatically started if you installed with all the default settings.
Step5: Click the library tab on the server console and chose to add the path as the path of the drive here all your playable content is present on the computer/laptop.
Step6: It will appear in the empty box with 5 check boxes, select all of them to allow everything to be streamed on the TV.
Step7: Now save the settings by clicking the save button which is on the bottom right corner.
Step8: By using your TV remote, select home and then scroll horizontally to select Media.
Step9: In media select Videos and you will find a new server appearing at the bottom of listed servers.
Step10: Browse through the server using the TV remote and play whatever you wish to play.

Hope this works for other smart TVs too.
